Voices In Power is bringing our Poetry Open Mic Experience to Washington, D.C. for our first time, & we’re doing it the only way we know how.. intentional, fun, & rooted in community. If you were in the room in another city, you already know what’s up, & if this is your first time with us, we promise you, you’ll have an amazing time. We can’t wait to see you there.
The Experience
The doors at our venue open 6:00 PM, with the show beginning at 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
Start your early evening with music, conversation, live art, vendors, food, & drinks. This experience is designed as a true night out, a place to arrive early, settle in, enjoy the atmosphere, & stay present all night.
The evening will feature:
- Featured Poet - TChaositself
- Spotlight Poet - CKDaPoet- 15-slot open mic (raffle-style sign-up)
- Music curated by a live DJ
- Live Art & Vendors
- Interactive moments throughout the night
- Photo & video coverage
Expect a room filled with love, culture, creativity, & powerful poetry.
Feature - TBA:
TChaositself began creatively writing and studying spoken word for 10 years. He has featured for various platforms around the country including Pure Poetry Live, DTL Poetry in Philadelphia, Poetry Me Please in New York, Release Open Mic, Trap Poetry, Speak up Poetry Series in Atlanta, Lady Syrens Indulgence in Philadelphia, Open Heart Poetry in New Jersey, Spit Dat DC, Comedian Desi's Cocoa Butter Fest, Orville The Poet's Poems and Prayers, Spirits and Lyrics in Manassas, various Busboys and Poets all around the DMV and Voices in Power in Philadelphia where he is a millionare club award winner. His writing is a reflection of his life, a window into his mind, as well as a voice for the experiences of the world around him.
Spotlight - TBA:
CKDaPoet is a 19 year old poet from Washington, D.C., turning emotion, love, pain, and late-night thoughts into words since the age of 12. With a growing audience of over 200K on TikTok and 80K+ on Instagram, his poetry resonates with a generation that feels deeply but struggles to say it out loud. Currently working toward publishing his first book, CK continues to build a name through raw honesty, storytelling, and a voice that feels both personal and universal.
Food & Drinks
Food & drinks will be available for purchase throughout the night. The venue will offer a curated menu designed specifically for this experience, allowing guests to enjoy delicious food without missing a moment of the show. Whether you’re grabbing a bite before the performances begin or ordering during intermission, food is part of the experience, so be sure to feed your belly while the poetry feeds your soul.
For Poets
Please read carefully:
- Voices In Power uses a raffle-based open mic sign-up
- Sign-ups open when doors open & close when the show begins (4PM-4:59PM)
- Poets must be present to sign up
- Poets are selected randomly throughout the night
- Each poet is given 5 minutes for one poem
- Signing a raffle ticket does not guarantee you’ll perform
