Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating the power of words, identity, & connection at Melanin & Metaphors: A Black Muslim Poetry Night, presented by Muzz in partnership with Voices In Power.
This one-of-a-kind event highlights Black Muslim creatives through poetry, music, & art, creating a space to connect, build, & inspire. The night will feature:
Guest Speakers sharing impactful stories during our panel.
Spoken Word Poetry performances from incredible artists.
Interactive Activations: Contribute to a collaborative live painting, leave affirmations at our “Selfie Station,” & sign the guest book dedicated to Muzz’s global journey.
Photo Booth Experience: Capture memories with friends & fellow creatives using our photo booth with custom event designs.

Ayesha Hicks - Host / Poet | Ayesha Hicks is a born and built Richmond, Virginia native. In 2022, she placed 3rd nationally in team poetry slam, is ICNA's 2023 Slam Champion, and is currently ranked #21 internationally via The "Women of the World Poetry Slam." With poetry, her goal has always been to awaken a sense of accountability in her listeners towards our collective success in humanity.
Youssef Kromah - Panel Host / Poet | Youssef Kromah is an award-winning poet, author, speaker, and creative entrepreneur dedicated to using art, storytelling, and community engagement to inspire change. With a background in Islamic studies and business development, he seamlessly blends faith, culture, and social impact in his work. Youssef’s passion for travel, philanthropy, and personal growth fuels his mission to uplift and empower communities worldwide.

We’re looking for 4 poets to perform at Melanin & Metaphors: A Black Muslim Poetry Night! If you’re interested, email us at findus@voicesinpower.com with the subject line “Muzz.”
Requirements:
Must identify as a Black Muslim creative.
Poetry should align with the event’s theme: the Black Muslim experience.
Avoid overly explicit content (topics like intimacy or sexual pleasure should be excluded).
Selected poets will be featured in a celebration of creativity and connection. Join us in making this night unforgettable!
Dress Code: Come as your best self! Dress to express the theme of creativity and individuality while honoring the cultural significance of the night.
