Voices In Power is bringing our Poetry Open Mic Experience to Orlando for our second time, & we’re doing it the only way we know how.. intentional, elevated, & rooted in community. If you were in the room the first time, you already know what’s up. We can’t wait to see you there.
The Experience
The doors at Lizzy’s Live open 7:00 PM, with the show beginning at 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM.
Start your night with music, conversation, food, & drinks inside one of downtown Orlando’s most beautiful spaces. This experience is designed as a true night out, a place to arrive early, settle in, enjoy the atmosphere, & stay present all night.
The evening will feature:
- Featured Poet - Brittany Barker
- 15-slot open mic (raffle-style sign-up)
- Music curated by a live DJ
- Live Art
- Interactive moments throughout the night
- Photo & video coverage
Expect a room filled with love, culture, creativity, & powerful poetry.
Feature - Brittany Barker:
Brittany Barker is a child of God, an award-winning poet and educator from Harlem, NYC. As Executive Director of Creative Soul House, Brittany has been an active advocate for community wellness, impacting hundreds of youth and adults, using art as a tool for self-discovery, transformation and social change. She holds a Bachelor Degree (BA) in English Literature, a Master Degree (MAT) in Secondary Education and has served as an educator for over 10 years.
Brittany Barker ranked 3rd in the world at the 2023 Womxn of the World Poetry Slam. Her poetry has graced stages such as Lincoln Center, The New Amsterdam Theatre, The Apollo Theatre. She is a member of the 2025 Nuyorican Poet Cafe’s national slam team, and has coached two teams, including Urban Word NYC’s 2024 Youth Slam Team and, currently, New York University’s Slam team. Brittany’s one-woman show, Standing Upright in the Crooked Room toured cross-states at TheaterlabNYC and Dickinson College in PA. Her newest production, Magic in the Middle is currently on tour.
She is the author of WOUND HONEY.
Drawing on inspiration from God, loved ones and art, her goal is to creatively use her gifts to invite people into the truth.

Food & drinks will be available for purchase throughout the night. The venue will offer a curated menu designed specifically for this experience, allowing guests to enjoy delicious food without missing a moment of the show. Whether you’re grabbing a bite before the performances begin or ordering during intermission, food is part of the experience, so be sure to feed your belly while the poetry feeds your soul.
For Poets
Please read carefully:
- Voices In Power uses a raffle-based open mic sign-up
- Sign-ups open when doors open & close when the show begins (7PM-7:59PM)
- Poets must be present to sign up
- Poets are selected randomly throughout the night
- Each poet is given 5 minutes for one poem
Please respect the process & time limits so everyone has the best experience possible.
